7 Free Things to Do to Get More Customers with Online Marketing

Think you can't afford to promote your business the way you'd hoped to? Don't let money hold you back. Use these 7 cost-free online marketing strategies to attract customers.

You probably made big plans for your business this year. Did they include pumping up your business’s online marketing? Whether they did or they didn’t, don’t let “but it costs too much” be your excuse for not driving more customers and clients to your business.

1) Claim your business' Google My Business page
Here are 7 great ideas for improving your online business profile this year using very little time and absolutely no money. It doesn’t get much better than that.
What do you see when you type your business name in Google? Hopefully, your website will come up number 1 in Google and to the right of the search results you will see what is called the "info box" on your business. In that info box hopefully all of the information is completely correct and the words "Own this business?" does not appear. Why? Because "Own this business?" means that the business has never been claimed.
Here’s what to do if "Own this business?" appears. Click on the "Own this business?" link while you are logged in to a Google account (usually gmail) and begin the process of claiming your business. Claiming your business will give you the opportunity to keep the information updated and appear in Google Maps, Google Local and all other Google properties.
What to do if no info box appears for your business? Easy, just go to https://business.google.com while you are logged into your Google account and start the process of setting up your Google My Business page.
No matter how you claim or set up your Google My Business page, you will probably need to confirm your business via having a postcard sent to you, which you should receive in 5 - 10 days. Google already has some business information for your business, you may have the option to receve a telephone call to that number for confirmation.
The easiest, fastest and simplest way to receive free traffic from Google is to have a claimed and optimized Google My Business page.

2) Claim your review site accounts and ask for reviews

One of the ways that Google determines the quality and authority of a business is by the number of reviews on the internet for that business. This is especially important for businesses that serve a local market.
Your Google My Business page Is also a review site, so once you have that set up, the biggest review site is done. But when you search your company name, which I recommended in item 1, you probably noticed that other sites, usually review sites, are some of the next listings that will come up under your name. Make sure to claim your business listing for each, optimize them with good images and copy and then regularly ask for reviews will help you control the quality of reviews that people find about your business.

What are the most important ones to claim besides Google? Yelp, YP and, if you have a Facebook page, Facebook. There are also industry-based review sites, such as Houzz, Health Grades, Angie's list and others.

3) Commit to email marketing

No other action you will take this year will mean more to the long term viability of your business. You can get a free account at MailChimp that allows you to send 12,000 emails per month to up to 2,000 subscribers. Imagine getting a sweet deal from your distributor on a popular product, sending an email to your list and selling your full order out in a day or two. You can do that and lots more with an email list.
How do you build your email list? Here are a few ideas:
  • Put an email signup form on your website
  • Ask new customers for their email address and permission to mail to them
  • Put out a fishbowl for business cards for a monthly drawing and ask if you can put them on an email list
  • Put a link to your email signup on your social media
Once you get that ball rolling, make it a monthly or biweekly to do to create a fun, informative email that makes using your product or service easier and more enjoyable.

4) Understand your customer's "pain point"

Why do your customers give you money? You solve a problem for them - whether it's allowing them to be fashionably dressed or saving them from a legal problem. Whatever your product or service, look at it as a “pain point" for a prospective customer that you solve. You are really in the solution business!
Take out a piece of paper and write down all of the different "pains" and problems that you solve. Now keep that paper handy (hang it on the wall if need be). Every time you need to write an ad, put together a new brochure, redesign business cards, come back to that list and be sure to include at least one, if not more, of these pains and how your business is the solution in every form of communication you make with prospective and current customers and clients.

5) Look at your website on a mobile device

Does it look good? Is it usable? Do the forms work? Does it take forever to load?
More than 60% of all search is currently being done on mobile devices. If your site doesn't work on mobile, well, it doesn't work. Making a website be responsive to the device that is using it is called "responsive design".
Granted fixing this problem isn't free, but recognizing that it's a problem that needs to be addressed is.

6) Look for your top 5 competitors on social media

If you are trying to figure out what you should be doing with social media or you can’t quite figure out what might work for your company, the easy, fast and free way to get some ideas and clear direction is by looking at what your competitors are doing.
Go to their websites. Down near the bottom of their pages should be links to their social media. Once you click through, here are some questions to ask.
  • What social media are they committing to publishing regularly on?
  • How many likes, friends or followers do they have?
  • How often are they posting?
  • Are they getting people to post, comment or acknowledge their posts in some way?
Follow, like or connect your personal social media accounts with their business social media accounts. This will give you a lot of insight to how they are doing social media. It will be up to you to decide whether they are doing a good job or not and what you would need to do to do it better than they are.

7) Commit to educating yourself on online marketing

There is a lot to know about online marketing, but that is not an excuse for putting off educating yourself as to how to do it effectively. More than ever before, the internet is the first, last and pretty much only place where people go to find a business and the solutions they provide. Look for a solution that stays focused on getting your business the most results for the least amount of effort.

Digital Advertising Blog | 5 Steps to Optimise Digital Advertising Campaigns

Digital Advertising Blog | 5 Steps to Optimise Digital Advertising Campaigns

In this article, we list the 5 Steps on How to Optimise your Digital Advertising Campaigns.

Step 1 – Targeting Strategy

To begin with, it is important to have your campaign set up with individual strategies for age, demographics, interests, behaviours, or any other target criteria you are using. This is so that each parameter can be tracked individually and you can optimise them in and out depending on the performance.

Make sure that your targeting strategies are in-line with the campaign brief provided by your client so that you can give them insights on the things which are most important to them.

Step 2 – Advertising Research

Simultaneously derive insights from qualitative market research based on the product you are advertising and the consumers you intend to target.

Additional information from market research in relation to the product and the psychographics of the audience will broaden the targeting funnel which will further assist in serving better results.

For example, Sparcmedia ran a campaign for a chain of family health clinics in Brisbane who were trying to promote an offering for skin cancer awareness. Through qualitative research, we found that Brisbane had an audience segment of students from Japan who were highly conscious about skin cancer due to the high rate of skin cancer in Japan.

Armed with this market knowledge we tested a strategy, utilising a small amount of the client’s budget to target Japanese students. This strategy was a success and resulted in increased conversions for the campaign, with an eCPA much lower than other strategies.

Step 3 – Advertising Insights

Start observing key activities such as the impact of the time of day, the day of week, placements and performance of URL/sites as they play an important role.

You should also be tracking consumer reaction towards each component of the advertising campaign. For example, if you have five creatives in circulation, instead of bundling the engagement rate and seeing the overall for all five, have them split out so that you can understand which executions get greater levels of engagement. Pause the ones that are less effective and focus spend on the 2-3 which have the greatest success. This will ensure that you get a greater engagement rate overall, plus get insights on the types of creative which your audience responds to.

Once the campaign is up and running analyse it for a period of two weeks before making adjustments. You need to ensure that the optimisations you are making are based on a statistically relevant level of data.

Step 4 – Optimise

After two weeks, optimise the campaign towards the parameters mentioned in Step 3

The process of optimisation can include:

Higher bidding or allocating more budgets towards the URL’s that generate higher engagement (CTR, views, conversions.)

Pausing the under performing line-items.

Bidding higher at the most active hour of the day that is providing maximum engagement.

Increase spends towards the best performing strategies (gender/age/interests)

Optimise spend on a daily basis until the campaign ends.

Step 5 – Analyse

When the campaign has finished, analyse the results and deliver post-campaign insights that will help the clients grow their business with effective decision-making. Useful insights include: Information around the engaged audience in comparison to the targeted audience, information on which creatives performed and why, information on which strategies performed and why. Wherever possible, overlay this with market data.

Instead of patting yourself on the back for a great click through rate or for the number of sales you achieved, start understanding why you got that result, because when you know that, it will be easier for you to replicate the result again and again on an ongoing basis.

How To Make Money Online (11 REAL Methods)

Smart Passive Income Ideas: Learning Internet Marketing For Local Business

Smart Passive Income Ideas: Learning Internet Marketing For Local Business

If you’re looking for a way to generate a smart passive income, don’t restrict your search to the Internet. Your moneymaking solution may now be no farther away than your auto mechanic. Or your plumber. Or your hairdresser.
Between the growth of both shopping malls and governmental policies that favor the largest corporate businesses, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult for a local business to thrive. A cost-efficient advertising budget – television, newspaper, radio, the Yellow Pages -- is out of the reach of most of them. And they would at least try advertising online if they could figure out how.
But now there are two ways in which you can help local businesses create a steady stream of paying customers while you create a steady stream of profits:
Local search engine marketing
According to a survey, the vast majority of people turn to Internet search engines to find information on local businesses – and the vast majority of them are disappointed. That’s because the vast majority of local businesses are so low tech they don’t even know how claim their proper spot on Google Maps. As a local online marketer, you can help put those businesses on the map in more ways than one.
After showing them how register with Google, you can boost their position on Google Maps by creating article backlinks on free Web sites (and providing them with traffic statistics at no cost to you). Depending upon the nature of the local business, it can wind up on page one of Google in as little as 24 hours! That opens the door for you to be paid to either develop and run their Web sites, or place their ads on targeted sites that you've set up.
Local Mobile Text Marketing
Mobile phone text marketing is no longer the domain of the biggest businesses. Thanks to newly developed software, you can now build a passive income by helping local businesses that have lacked both the knowhow and the money to advertise via cell phone.
While only twenty per cent of mails get opened, ninety-per cent of text messages do – and within an hour. Imagine being able to show the owner of a children’s store how to send a mass texting to a list of customers about a sale or special promotion. Better yet, imagine being able to give him what’s known as a cell phone short code (“text 12345 to sale”) for a fraction of what the big companies pay.
Learning Internet marketing for local business is very smart passive income idea: whether through search engine optimatization or text marketing, there’s a vast untapped market of local businesses that are looking for ways to increase their customer base – and are ready to pay for the best solutions.

Internet Marketing Should You Try It?

Internet Marketing Should You Try It?
Internet Marketing Should You Try It?
In this article I hope to share with you some insights related to internet marketing for those of you that haven't been able to see success or for those that are considering trying it. I would like to give some bullet points on what I am learning at Wealthy Affiliate (an online internet marketing university).

Personally I was initially turned off by the phrase wealthy affiliate (though I now love the training) because I associated it with get rich quick scams and I also began to look at internet marketing not with the intent of making a lot of money (though many make a lot or enter into it with that intent) but as a means to provide a second income from my home or wherever I was at in the world.

But anyway, getting back to what I was saying earlier, here are some points to offer help for those that are looking into IM (internet marketing), have doubts about it or have not been able to see any fruit from their labors. So here are some nuggets that I offer from my experience. I hope they can be of help to you:

Writing is essential.

Some may disagree with me on this but if you want to do this right and be in it for the long-haul you are going to have to write (unless you have money you can spend to outsource this). I was hoping this would not be the case because I really have never enjoyed writing (though it is beginning to grow on me). The internet feeds on content. And yes, images, videos are very important but a lot of SEO and article marketing is dependant on quality, unique content.

You can learn to write.

The good thing is that you can learn to write better and you can learn to write in a way that is just your natural self and if you find a passion you can write about it. This will make your writing easier and more enjoyable and you will be more consistent. At Wealthy Affiliate where I am receiving my training the owner Kyle wrote something that I now agree with. Those who write consistently succeed. Of course, there are other pieces to the puzzle but writing consistently is key.

Commit for a year. What helped me keep at... this might sound strange... is that I paid for a whole year of training. I am committed to learning for a year. I am treating this as if I was studying in the University. There is enough people that are able to make this work for them so I decided to find the best training online I could receive and commit to learn and apply for a whole year.

IT TAKES TIME... and effort. At first I tried to make everything work quickly and would jump from one thing to another. I am finally coming to the point where I am committing to one thing at a time. I am learning to take small steps to learn and then to take action. In fact I have been taught to spend 50% of my time learning and 50% of my time applying, taking action (So if I have 8 hours a week to give to this I spend 4 on learning and 4 applying)

Ask questions from those who are doing it successfully. I have loved the forums at Wealthy Affiliate. I have learned a lot from people that live doing this full time. Reading and asking questions from real people and from current posts (the internet changes a lot) has been extremely valuable.

Write out weekly goals and stick to them. This is what I am doing now. Writing out my goals has made a big difference. Otherwise I tend to get distracted and go from one thing to another or I get lost in all of the information and options that are available.

TAKE ACTION. To make this work you need to take consistent action and the right type of action with the proper training. Keep at it both in learning and in taking action and you should see fruit to your labor.
